Description

The California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) and the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) are things we often get ask about. Here is a little about what they are and why you should have this added to your small business website.

What is it?

CCPA and GDPR are sets of legislation that restricts and/or monitors the information that websites collect on their users (visitors). It mainly creates a legal environment where you (site owner) are placing on the forefront of a user’s visit to your site, a list of information or data that is being collected during their visit. It also gives the user the opportunity to choose whether to stay, go, or decline the collection of that data. For MOST small business website owners; you are not required by legislation to have it unless you have more than 50,000 visitors or make 25 million gross a year off your website.

Why you should add this to your website

Remember in July, 2018 when google mandated that all indexed websites should have an SSL placed on their website (even if it wasn’t needed)? This falls along the same scope. It won’t be long before search engines go beyond the legislation and make this a ranking variable on your website. additionally, its not a bad idea… if it provides a little piece of mind to your website visitor; why not?

How much and what is needed?

We offer this plugin set-up for $35. It will also require you to “tweak” a privacy policy for your website (we will get you started with stock content). At this point is it affordable and provides your visitor with a little extra piece of mind. It also places you ahead of the game when search engines add this as a ranking criteria (probably in the fall release of the algorithm)
